April 2019 Wine of the Month
I know it’s halfway through the month – but I really struggled to declare an April wine of the month.
But the other night I was out for drinks with a friend and realized why I’ve been having so much trouble: April’s weather.
Think about it. You can have an 72 degree sunny day and just want to sip rose outside. But then the next day it is pouring and 60 degrees and you want to make a pot roast and drink a hearty red. Then suddenly it is 80 degrees and you want to grill something and sip a perfectly chilled Sauvignon Blanc. April is undecided.
Because of that, I’ve decreed April to be the rainbow month. It’s a month for red, rose, and white wine.
White: Cottesbrook Sauvignon Blanc – one of my all time Top 10 wines. If you like Kim Crawford, you’ll love this wine! It’s at Total Wine and about the same price point as Kim Crawford.
Rose: Spier Rose. Spier is a South African wine company that makes a delicious Pintoage. So when I saw their rose a few years ago I had to try it. And I’m glad I did. This is a favorite rose – it has a nice flavor that isn’t too sweet.
Red: Gabriele Rausse Noebbiolo. I can’t lie – I didn’t actually open this one in April. But it is a delicious not-too-heavy red wine. Perfect for rainy nights when you want to be a little bit cozy.
